arles Anthony Potter SR is the Executive Director and founder of Developing Future Scholars, Inc. He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and is the father two boys and three girls. Mr. Potter is a Mass Communications Major from Southern Illinois University. He was the first African American to repair financial systems for National Cash Register in St. Louis. In 1981 he moved to Houston. Mr. Potter built a multi- million dollar agency for American National Insurance Company. In 1990 he saw there was a need that was not being met for our youth. He gave up his career to found Developing Future Scholars, Inc. Since it’s inception, DFS has assisted over 3000 students with college funding. They have received over $60,000,000 in financial assistance. His commitment to the community was acknowledged when he was awarded the Jefferson Award in 1992. Then Mayor of Houston, Bob Lanier, issued a Proclamation in honor of the DFS “Financial Aid Awareness Month” Project. In 1997 Mayor Lee Brown also issued a Proclamation in honor of DFS. Mr. Potter has received numerous awards including Knights of Columbus. He is also a volunteer speaker for the Houston Area Urban League, has served as the Education Thread Co-Chair of the Third Ward Community Cloth Cooperative, member of the Entrepreneur’s Network, member of the Association of Black School Educator’s, member of the Rice University Nominator’s Circle and past president of the Braes Bayou Rotary Club of Houston.
